Who are we?
The church of the Nazarene
started in the early 1900s when several small holiness groups came together to form
this church denomination. In this 21st century, by a moving of the Holy Spirit, we have
become a church with over one million members. We have more than 750 missionaries,
circling our globe, in over 148 countries.
What
do we believe?
Many people today find
themselves wanting to be involved in a church but they do not know how to go about
selecting a church to call home. If I were looking for a home church I would want to know
three things about that church.
First, I would want to
know if they were clear about what they believe.
Second, I would want to
know their intended purpose.
Third, I would want to
know what they understood as their mission.
Now I assume that if you are
seriously seeking a home church these questions are important to you as well. The
following three statements answer these questions for our church.
Statement of Belief:
Our church will continue to build on our original foundation of holiness as
we move into the future.
Holiness, the Focal Point of our theology,
is explained in this simple statement by Dr. Ponder Gilliland: "We believe in the
possibility of a life completely given to Christ." (See Matt. 22:36-40)
Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of our Church is to glorify God by presenting Jesus
Christ as savior and Lord to as many people as possible. Using the most effective means
available, we must disciple these new people, helping them to become active, dedicated
Christians.
Statement
of Mission:
"Investing In Eternity"
The acronym ACTS gives detail to the meaning of our Mission Statement
A cquire the investment already made for me through Jesus Christ
Continue to invest (The pursuit of a personal relationship with
God)
Take the investment home (Family and Friends)
Share the investment with others (Through Love, Relationships, Fellowship,
Service, Giving, Sacrifice, and Evangelism)
